Licensed Pastoral Christian Counselor

Texan born and raised Irma DeJesus gave her life to Christ in 1984 and has been in ministry for over 35 years. She and her husband Sam have four children and six grandchildren. As a couple they are Elders in their church and have served in various ministries.  They are blessed to have experienced God’s healing power both in their marriage and in their personal lives.

Irma graduated Magna Cum Lade from Colorado Theological Seminary and holds a Bachelors in Christian Counseling.  She is a Licensed Pastoral Christian Counselor through the National Christian Counselors Association and has Advanced certifications to specifically deal with many of life’s most challenging issues. She ministers through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and out of her own life experiences. Having walked through divorce, single-parenting, parental alcoholism, and past trauma she has a heart to help the hurting overcome their own life struggles.

Irma is the Founder of DeJesus Christian Counseling Center. She serves as the Director, one of the Counselors, and the Board of Director’s Chair for DeJesus Christian Counseling Center. Irma is also a Public Speaker and on the Board of Directors for God in Marriage, a non-profit ministry which focuses on building up marriages through meaningful marriage conferences. Irma is proud to have served as a chaplain for the University of Texas at Austin and desires to help others find their God given identity in Christ.

BJ GUERRA

Robert “BJ” Guerra was born and raised in Austin. BJ came to know the Lord in his early 20’s and has had a passion for ministry since then. His biggest influences in ministry have been Bishop T.D. Jakes, Tony Evens and his Senior Pastor Cameron of White Stone church.

 

BJ was called into ministry at a young age and has over 20 years of ministry experience serving in various positions at church, such as Youth Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Small Group Leader and serving in other Christian organizations. Having experienced the many different struggles and victories in marriage; BJ decided to answer the call to full-time ministry as a Christian Counselor. BJ’s passion is to help marriages succeed, families grow stronger, and people that have experienced infidelity, abuse, and addiction of various kinds.

 

BJ and his bride Mora, have three amazing children and through God’s grace and healing, they have been married since 1999. They are the founders of the God In Marriage Ministry, whose mission is Helping couples to build a Christ-Centered marriage!

Sam DeJesus

Board Member

A native of Ohio, Sam was a prodigy as a youth, graduating high school at the tender age of 15. From there, he took his tremendous talent to the United States Army and served for 10 years as a decorated veteran. Sam has also had experience working for the FBI after his time in the military.

Once his service was over, Sam transitioned into working in the financial sector, beginning his career as a regional manager for TransAmerica Financial. He parlayed this opportunity into moving to the great state of Texas and became the first regional manager in the state of Texas for New Century Mortgage. After holding this title for 6 years, he spent some time piloting a new non-conforming mortgage division for Wells Fargo. He then took all his experiences and decided to branch out on his own and formed Principal One LLC, and he has operated as the founder and CEO of his company since 2002.

Sam also has extensive experience working in the community, including being the coach of various youth sports teams, being a volunteer coordinator with Serve Our City for over 10 years, and being an Elder of LifeAustin Church. He also worked tirelessly as a board member for Celebration of Love for over 13 years, serving the active military at Fort Hood.

Sam is a father of four children and a grandfather of five, and has been a loving husband to his wife, Irma, for 20 years. Sam brings his years of leadership and financial acumen to the DeJesus Christian Counseling Center Board and will ensure that the center is prepared and operational for those that seek restoration and healing. He looks forward to continuing to be active in his community, active in his church, and making a difference in the lives of many.

Jim Buck

Board Member

Jim has been serving as the President of Texas Legal since November 1, 2007. Prior to joining Texas Legal, Jim was employed by the Orange County Employees Retirement System (OCERS) from October 1992 to October 2007. During Jim’s tenure at OCERS he served in a number of executive and managerial positions. In April of 2004, Jim was appointed as the Assistant Chief Executive Officer of External Operations of OCERS, having previously served as Chief Operations Officer since December 1999. He also served as the Human Resources Manager and in numerous capacities in the Member Services Department.

Jim has 30 years of experience in the field of Human Resources and Benefits Administration; his career began as a Personnelman in the United States Navy.

Jim has served on the Board for Austin Academy. Austin Academy is a nonprofit adult education organization that prepares adults for college and employment. Jim served two terms as the Board Chair. Jim has also served on the Covered Bridge Property Owners Association Board. Additionally, Jim has served as an advisor for Team Focus. Team Focus is a nonprofit organization whose role is to mentor young fatherless boys. Jim provides professional advice to the boys on how to prepare for interviews. Jim has also taught Bachelors level and Masters level HR courses at the University of Phoenix.

Jim has a master’s degree in Management with an emphasis in Human Resources Management from the University of Redlands and a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in Public Administration from the University of La Verne.

Jonathan Smith
Board Member

Jonathan Smith is an award-winning designer and creative director with more than 23 years of strategic branding experience. After earning a B.S. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin, he honed his conceptual and design skills at Kirschenbaum Bond & Partners in New York, Levenson & Hill in Dallas, and McGarrah Jessee in Austin. 

Jonathan is known for original thinking, sharp strategy and targeted visual communications that deliver clear results for clients, such as Super Target, Frost Bank, Taco Cabana Restaurants, Torchy’s Tacos and 7-Eleven. His shelf is filled with industry acclaim from Communications Arts, National Addys and Obie Awards. 

Today, Jonathan is a partner and Creative Director for Arsenal Advertising, LLC. He inspires and manages the arsenal of talent that delivers results for their clients. Highly motivated and passionate, his strength lies in his ability to balance traditional creative ideas with his knowledge of interactive media and consumer behavior online. He looks forward to working on the board with other impassioned members to help develop solutions to solve problems facing our community.

Michelle Villanueva
Board Member

Born and raised in the wide-open spaces of West Texas, Michelle Villanueva is a grateful daughter of God and has been blessed to be a proud mother of five incredible children.  She established a home here in Austin, TX in 2018 but also retains her roots with a residence in Odessa, TX.  

 Michelle is employed by Great Basin Petroleum in Odessa and has two decades of business management experience, including starting two companies.  Her love for ministry and desire to serve was born as a result of being a client of our director and founder, Irma DeJesus.  Michelle is excited to employ her extensive business experience with a heartfelt passion for ministry in helping our Center meet the needs of those we serve.  She is grateful to calls Austin Stone Northwest her church home.

Mora Guerra
Intercessory Team Lead

As a Christian organization we believe in the Power of Prayer!  Mora Guerra is our Intercessory Team Lead; she and a group of amazing prayer warriors always pray for us so that God can guide our steps in everything we do. She has been married to one of our Associate Counselors (BJ) for over 22 years and they have 3 adult children.  She has been involved in Youth Ministry since she was first married and developed a love for teenagers and their families which led her to become a Youth Pastor alongside her husband.  She has served on several boards, coordinated multiple fundraisers, and led many youths to Christ through ministry and attending Youth Camps.  Through Life experiences she and her husband have felt led to now work with Marriages and are the founders of God in Marriage; a non-profit that has a vision to touch Marriages through Conferences and Workshops.  Mora is an amazing Woman of God with a heart for Jesus and a strong love to help and direct people to the Lord.
